Plot
The Platform is a Spanish science fiction-horror film directed by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia. The story is set in a vertical, futuristic prison known as “The Hole.” Inmates are housed in cells stacked on top of each other, and a platform filled with food descends through each level once a day. The catch is that the prisoners on the upper levels gorge themselves, leaving those on the lower levels with meager scraps or nothing at all.
The film follows Goreng, a man who voluntarily enters The Hole to earn a diploma and change society from within. As he navigates the brutality and desperation of life in the prison, he forms an unlikely alliance with a fellow inmate, Trimagasi. Together, they attempt to survive the ever-changing, grim reality of the prison and expose its inherent flaws.
The Platform is a social allegory that delves into themes of inequality, human nature, and the consequences of systemic injustice. The film is a dark and thought-provoking exploration of the human condition within a harsh and unforgiving environment.
