Plot

Nowhere in Africa is a German film directed by Caroline Link, based on the autobiographical novel by Stefanie Zweig. The story is set in 1938 and follows the Redlich family, a Jewish family escaping the rise of the Nazis in Germany. Walter, the father, relocates to Kenya to work on a remote farm, while his wife Jettel and daughter Regina join him later.

The film portrays the challenges the family faces as they adjust to their new life in Africa. The cultural and emotional struggles within the family reflect the broader themes of displacement, identity, and the impact of historical events on individual lives.

Nowhere in Africa received critical acclaim for its poignant storytelling and won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2003. It beautifully captures the complexities of immigration, family dynamics, and the search for a sense of home during a tumultuous period in history.
