Plot

Wicked is a reimagined origin story set in the Land of Oz, before Dorothy’s adventure. It follows Elphaba, a young woman born with green skin who is ostracized and misunderstood due to her difference. She enters Shiz University, where she meets Galinda (who later becomes Glinda the Good Witch), a popular, ambitious student. Though initially wary of one another, the two forge an unlikely yet profound friendship. As they grow, their paths diverge: Galinda embraces privilege and popularity, while Elphaba develops her powers and a fierce sense of justice, standing up against corruption and cruelty. Along the way, various forces—including the enigmatic Wizard of Oz—push them toward their destinies: Elphaba as the Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda as the Good Witch. The story explores themes of identity, friendship, power, and what it means to fight for what you believe in, even when the world misunderstands you.
