After a shipwreck, Rozzum Unit 7134 (nicknamed “Roz”), a service robot, washes ashore on a remote, uninhabited island inhabited only by wildlife. Built for utility and programmed to serve humans, Roz initially tries to follow her directives but quickly realizes no one seems to have ordered her or sent her to this island. Alone and ill-equipped for survival in this wild environment, she must rapidly adapt. Over time, Roz forms relationships with the local animals—even as many of them view her with fear or suspicion. Her life changes further when she becomes the adoptive mother to an orphaned gosling, Brightbill. As she raises Brightbill, Roz learns lessons in empathy, belonging, and what it means to care beyond one’s programming. She faces natural challenges—storms, predators—as well as internal ones: her identity, purpose, and growing sense of family. Ultimately she becomes not just a helper or tool, but a protector and member of the island community, redefining what “home” and “family” truly mean.
