Plot
The Whale follows Charlie (Brendan Fraser), a reclusive and morbidly obese English teacher who attempts to reconnect with his estranged teenage daughter, Ellie (Sadie Sink), whom he abandoned eight years earlier. Living in isolation in his apartment, Charlie teaches online courses, keeping his webcam off due to his appearance. His nurse and only friend, Liz (Hong Chau), urges him to seek medical attention, but Charlie refuses. As Charlie’s health deteriorates, he becomes determined to make amends with Ellie, leading to a series of emotional confrontations. The film explores themes of guilt, redemption, and the complexities of human relationships. Directed by Darren Aronofsky and based on Samuel D. Hunter’s play, The Whale delves into the struggles of a man seeking forgiveness and understanding in the face of personal demons.
