Plot
The Shining (1980), directed by Stanley Kubrick, is a psychological horror film based on Stephen King’s novel. Jack Torrance, an aspiring writer and recovering alcoholic, takes a job as the winter caretaker of the isolated Overlook Hotel in Colorado, bringing along his wife Wendy and young son Danny, who possesses psychic abilities known as “the shining.” As winter sets in and they become snowbound, the hotel’s sinister influence exacerbates Jack’s descent into madness. Haunted by visions and the hotel’s malevolent spirit, Jack becomes increasingly violent, culminating in a murderous rampage. Wendy and Danny must fight for their lives as Jack succumbs to the hotel’s dark powers. Danny’s “shining” ability helps him communicate with the hotel’s chef, Dick Hallorann, who attempts a rescue.
