Plot
In this 2024 French-language adaptation of Alexandre Dumas’s classic, Edmond Dantès is a sailor in 1815 whose life is turned upside down when he disobeys orders to rescue a shipwrecked woman, Angèle, who holds a letter from the exiled Napoleon. His captain Danglars steals the letter, and through betrayal by Danglars, Fernand (his fiancée’s cousin), and a corrupt prosecutor Villefort, Edmond is falsely accused of treason and imprisoned on his wedding day. In prison for 14 years, he befriends Abbé Faria, who educates him and reveals a hidden treasure on the island of Monte Cristo. After Faria’s death, Edmond escapes, recovers the treasure, and returns as the Count of Monte Cristo to plot his revenge. He weaves intricate schemes to ruin the lives of those who wronged him, while also encountering Mercédès, his lost love, and Haydée, whose story intertwines with his vengeance. In the end, Edmond has to reckon with the costs of revenge, identity, and whether mercy can exist alongside the thirst for justice.
