Plot
Scent of a Woman (1992) follows the story of Charlie Simms, a prep school student who takes a Thanksgiving weekend job to earn extra money. He is hired to look after Frank Slade, a blind, retired Lieutenant Colonel. Slade, a bitter and irascible man, has plans of his own for the weekend—a final spree in New York City before he intends to end his life. Charlie is pulled into Frank’s world of fine dining, tango dancing, and test-driving a Ferrari. As the weekend progresses, an unexpected bond forms between the two. Frank’s abrasive exterior begins to crack, revealing his deep loneliness and pain. Meanwhile, Charlie faces a moral dilemma back at school that could jeopardize his future. In the end, through their shared experiences, both men find a renewed sense of purpose and hope. The film is a poignant exploration of integrity, redemption, and the transformative power of human connection.
