His Three Daughters follows three estranged sisters — Katie, Rachel, and Christina — who reunite in their father’s Brooklyn apartment as he lies in his final days. Katie (Carrie Coon) is a controlling, anxious mother dealing with her teenage daughter and tensions about stepping into familial caretaker roles. Rachel (Natasha Lyonne), the step-daughter, has lived with their father and bears much of the emotional and physical responsibility, but is criticized by Katie for perceived lack of ambition or success. Christina (Elizabeth Olsen), who lives further away, carries optimism and a desire for peace, often acting as mediator. Over the course of about four days, old resentments surface: conflicts over caregiving, life choices, unexpressed grievances, and differing definitions of what it means to show up. Trivial things — like the contents of a fridge, or forgotten medical documents — become battlegrounds for deeper issues of guilt, identity, loss, and love. As death looms, the sisters navigate moments of sorrow, laughter, and connection, trying to find grace in letting go, forgiveness, and the messy bonds that tie family together.
