Plot
Hacksaw Ridge (2016) is a biographical war drama based on the true story of Desmond Doss, a devout Seventh-day Adventist who enlists in the U.S. Army during World War II. Doss, a conscientious objector due to his religious beliefs, refuses to carry or use a weapon, insisting on serving as a medic instead. Despite facing hostility and ridicule from his fellow soldiers, he remains steadfast in his convictions.
The film culminates in the Battle of Okinawa, where Doss displays extraordinary courage by single-handedly rescuing 75 wounded soldiers from the battlefield, lowering them to safety from the titular Hacksaw Ridge. His selflessness and bravery earn him the respect of his comrades and make him the first conscientious objector to receive the Medal of Honor. The movie is a powerful testament to the strength of personal beliefs and the impact one individual can have on the lives of many.
