Craig Waterman is a marketing executive, married to Tami, whose cancer is in remission. They have a teenage son, Steven. On the surface, life is stable but emotionally numbing for Craig, who struggles with emotional availability and feels increasingly invisible in his own life. Their new neighbor, Austin Carmichael (a charismatic but unsatisfied weatherman), moves in and attempts friendly outreach—dropping off gifts or inviting Craig over to hang out—steps that Craig accepts with both enthusiasm and tension. Craig’s yearning for connection with Austin grows into obsession: he wants Austin’s approval, friendship, even admiration. When attention shifts or Craig perceives it diminishing, he becomes socially awkward, desperate, and unmoored. The film explores Craig’s unraveling—through cringe-humor, surreal sequences, suburban malaise, and quiet moments of shame—culminating in emotionally raw confrontations where Craig must face the consequences of pushing too hard, mistaking under-attention for rejection, and longing for intimacy in all the wrong ways.
