Plot

Barbie begins in a perfect, colorful world called Barbie Land, where every Barbie is everything one could imagine—happy, confident, stylish—and every Ken is secondary but eager. When Barbie (Margot Robbie) starts experiencing glitches: she has existential thoughts, sharp pains, and doubts about her privileged perfection, she realizes something is wrong. She travels to the real world to figure things out, dragging Ken (Ryan Gosling) along. Outside her bubble, she confronts patriarchy, sexism, and identity—both as a toy and as a woman. She meets Gloria (America Ferrera), a mother struggling with reality; Allan, a lesser-known character trying to prove himself; and faces the absurdity of consumer culture. Meanwhile, Ken learns what his role truly is in both worlds. Barbie must decide whether perfection is worth the cost, reclaim her own agency, and redefine what it means to belong. Themes of feminism, identity, love, and reality blend into a visually dazzling satire that’s funny, touching, and thought-provoking.
