Plot
Anora follows Ani Mikheeva (Mikey Madison), a young sex worker living in Brooklyn, whose life takes an impulsive turn when she marries Vanya, the impetuous son of a wealthy Russian oligarch. Their spontaneous union in Las Vegas sets off a cascade of consequences when Vanya’s parents discover the marriage. Disapproving and disdainful, they dispatch henchmen to annul the marriage, leading to a chaotic journey that takes Ani through the lavish yet cold world of the ultra-rich. As Ani navigates this absurd “Cinderella” twist, she must contend with power dynamics, class tension, and her own desires. Alongside the luxury and spectacle, the film explores what Ani leaves behind — her autonomy, her dignity, and her sense of self — while learning what dreams cost when they collide with wealth and shame. The story is both comedic and tragic, using bold visuals, sharp dialogue, and unexpected turns as Ani struggles between the life she thought she wanted and the life she discovers she needs.
