Plot
In 1980s New York, Patrick Bateman is a wealthy investment banker with a seemingly perfect life. Beneath his charming exterior, he harbors a psychopathic alter ego driven by sadistic violence and an obsession with status. As he indulges in brutal murders, including colleagues and strangers, his grip on reality weakens. He kills Paul Allen, assuming his identity, and escalates his crimes without consequence. Bateman’s erratic behavior goes unnoticed in his superficial social circle. When he confesses his killings to his lawyer, he is dismissed as delusional, reinforcing the film’s ambiguous reality. The story blurs the line between fantasy and truth, questioning whether Bateman’s crimes were real or figments of his twisted mind. As he remains unpunished, the film critiques consumerism and moral decay, leaving the audience unsettled by the lack of resolution. Bateman’s final words—“This confession has meant nothing”—cement his existential emptiness.
