Plot

Nearly three decades have passed since the Rage virus escaped the lab, transforming the world into a nightmare. A group of survivors, isolated on a remote island connected to the mainland by a causeway that’s only accessible at low tide, maintain a fragile quasi-society under strict quarantine. Among them is 12-year-old Spike, who looks up to his father Jamie, a scavenger, and cares deeply for his ailing mother, Isla, who suffers from a mysterious illness. When Spike, on a coming-of-age ritual hunt, ventures into the mainland, he confronts terrors far beyond what his sheltered island life suggested: mutated infected, new kinds of “Alphas” among the undead, and human survivors warped by the years of isolation. As Isla’s condition worsens, Spike and Jamie embark on a desperate mission to seek Dr. Ian Kelson (Ralph Fiennes), believed to have knowledge that could offer hope or deliver them into greater danger. Along the way, they uncover that the infected’s mutations are evolving—not just physically but psychologically—and that the lines between monster and human, safety and infection, are more fragile than ever.
